Fume Series

FUME SERIES GALLERY

Fumed pieces are colored with pure gold or silver metal. These metals are heated up in our flames until they melt and vaporize onto the glass. This creates a permanent iridescent sheen on the surface. Silver deposits a yellow/blue coloration. Gold deposits a pink/orange/green range of colors. The look of these colorations vary widely depending on the light source and the background. When gold is used, silver is always applied as well, to help the gold adhere to the glass. Gold is such a pure element, it doesn't want to easily bond to the glass. The gold we use is raw, panned straight out of the gold country of interior Alaska.  Raw gold contains other trace metals creating a less predictable but more interesting outcome. Hand labeled and dated with a titanium pen.
